A method of locating surface and some subsurface defects within a magnetic field created by the inspection Yoke on a ferrous surface. Defects are amplified visually by the use of high contrast visual techniques such as wet fluorescent particles or black on white contrast sprays. Inspection is typically performed on welds and in the associated heat affected zone or in areas of expected damages.
